A fight broke out at a South Stradbroke Island music festival overnight and although security guards were present, police had to be ferried to the scene to break it up.

The violence was believed to have been sparked by issues while transferring revellers to and from the island on Saturday night.

Police were expected to provide more information on Sunday.

More to come.
